y education. Following a comprehensive needs assessment by the PEEEI (Priscilla Ekwueme Eleje Empowerment Initiative) team, it was revealed that a lack of essential educational materials—such as books, stationery, and learning tools—was a major obstacle to the education of children within the camp.
This shortage of resources has resulted in irregular school attendance, poor academic performance, and limited opportunities for students to realize their full potential. In response to this critical situation, PEEEI launched an Educational Support Program, visiting Sharing Prosperity School, the only primary school within the camp on 11th September 2024.
We were accompanied by Mrs. Anagbogu, one of our board members and the former Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, who had, during her tenure, successfully implemented various impactful projects within the community. Her longstanding relationship with the community made this visit especially meaningful and further deepened our commitment to its development.
The main objective of this program is to reduce the financial burden on parents by providing their children with the essential materials needed to attend school. In doing so, we hope to encourage consistent school attendance and academic participation, giving these children a fair chance to thrive. Additionally, we aimed to bring smiles to their faces by equipping them with the tools to pursue a better future, ensuring they are properly integrated into society.
During our visit, PEEEI distributed educational materials to 70 students. This initiative not only gave immediate relief to families but also laid the groundwork for sustainable educational development within the camp. The joy and enthusiasm exhibited by the students were heartwarming, further reinforcing our commitment to supporting their education.
Moving forward, PEEEI looks to strengthen collaborations with other NGOs that have shown an interest in the welfare of these children. Together, we can scale the impact of this program, ensuring a continuous supply of educational materials and broader support for the school.
Our goal is to maintain and grow this support, giving the children in Kuchingoro IDP Camp the opportunity for a brighter, more educated future.
