The International Day of the Girl-Child is observed annually on October 11 to highlight and address the unique challenges faced by girls around the world. It serves as a call to action for investing in the development and empowerment of girls, ensuring they are respected, supported, and given equal opportunities to succeed.
The 2024 theme, “Vision for the Future,” underscores the importance of providing girls with the resources and opportunities they need to shape their futures. It highlights the need for equal access to education, healthcare, and technology, helping girls reach their full potential. The theme encourages collective action toward a future where girls can succeed in all aspects of life, free from bias, and empowered to drive change in their communities and beyond.
In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child 2024, PEEEI collaborated with Kids & Teens Resource Centre, Center for Real Impact International, Rubies Development Foundation, Grace Initiative, Trinity Girls Network, and His Marvellous Grace Support Foundation, to celebrate with the girls and women of Kabusa Community in Abuja at the District Head Palace.
The girls were taught the importance of having vision for the future and looking out for role models whose story they can learn from citing examples of women who have done excellently well for themselves and made our nation proud. They were taught to dream big, be resilient and encourage one another to thrive and do better than their environment is offering them.
The program reached over 80 girls, 25 women and 10 men. The parent were also admonished to give attention to their girls and give the necessary support for them to thrive and become women we can be proud of in the future.
The program ended with an admonition to the girls to know what they want and be ready to showcase their talents and gifts wherever they find themselves.
